PARSIPPANY, N.J.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 28, 1994--Important and useful paper documents can now be easily converted to electronic media and shared with co-workers or others across the hall or around the world using technology from AT&T EasyLink Services and Visioneer, Inc.

Global messaging services from AT&T EasyLink Services, combined with scanning hardware and software from Visioneer, solve the common problem of how to quickly and efficiently share paper-based information with business partners or other interested parties. Although electronic communications is growing, as much as 95 percent of information that individuals need to share exists as paper on a desk or in filing cabinets.

Visioneer's innovative scanning products, integrated with electronic mail and sophisticated fax services from AT&T EasyLink Services, give users unparalleled flexibility in managing and routing information. Customers can sidestep the need of costly overnight mail, inter-office mail, or the need to print, copy and stand in front of a fax machine for manual faxing.

AT&T EasyLink Services, the global messaging unit of AT&T, provides service to more than 160 countries around the world. Its electronic mail service, AT&T Mail, has extensive connectivity to various messaging media and secure network communications.

The ability to bring order to the paper blizzard in offices has several components:

o Visioneer PaperMax This compact paper scanner weighs just 2.5 pounds and is only 3 inches deep, 3 3/4 inches wide and 12 1/2 inches long. It scans a typical page in six seconds and fits conveniently between a keyboard and monitor. PaperMax connects to a computer's serial port.

o PaperMax Software This cross-platform software, tightly integrated with the PaperMax, performs sophisticated document handling. This includes the ability to zoom and rotate images, highlighter and "sticky notes" functions, and document retrieval using key search words. MaxMate includes free viewer software so that anyone receiving information can view, print or save it.

o AT&T EasyLink Services With a click-and-drag motion, MaxMate users can place documents on an AT&T Mail screen icon that prepares the document for routing over the AT&T EasyLink network. The network can send messages to electronic mail addresses or directly to fax machines. AT&T Mail has connections to more than 40 e-mail systems around the world, including such popular services as Prodigy and America Online. The network can also provide secure fax mailboxes and broadcast fax capabilities for easy faxi ng. AT&T Mail brings the functionality of a fax machine to the desktop without any additional hardware purchases.

The suggested retail price of PaperMax and MaxMate for Windows is $449. Charges for AT&T Mail are based on the number of characters of information a user sends. There is no charge for messages received. Access to the network if free via a national "1-800" number.
