 TOKYO, Jan. 28 /PRNewswire/ -- AT&T Japan (headquarters: Tokyo;

president: Timothy R. Schrader) has announced that Japan's first 5ESS switch was delivered to Nippon Idou Tsushin Corporation (IDO) today.
 The switch will be used at IDO's Software Center in Tokyo for interface testing, systems integration and software support. The 5ESS switch will be used in the deployment of IDO's next generation digital mobile telephone system (D-MTS).
 The delivery of the 5ESS switch represents over a year of joint cooperation between IDO, NEC and AT&T. NEC and AT&T have been working cooperatively to supply equipment for IDO's network.
 Edward M. Prell, AT&T Switching Systems vice president-international division, said, "AT&T is delighted that Japan's first 5ESS switch was delivered to IDO. This event marks an important milestone in the long- term relationship between IDO and AT&T."
 AT&T's 5ESS switch has been installed throughout the world and serves as the digital platform for numerous switching applications. The ISO 9001 standards have been adopted in 46 countries, including Japan.
