AT&T Announces New Contract with Wheaton Franciscan Services, Inc.; Optical Services to Improve Customer Service for Not-for-Profit Health Care Provider.

: T) today announced a new contract to provide optical networking Communications between computers, telephones and other electronic devices using light. An optical network is far more reliable and has far greater potential transmission capacity than networking in the electrical domain. See optical fiber.  services to Wheaton Franciscan Services, Inc. (WFSI), a not-for-profit organization with headquarters in Wheaton, Ill., that operates more than 100 health and shelter agencies including 17 hospital campuses in Wisconsin, Iowa and Illinois.

Under the terms of the five-year contract, AT&T will integrate GigaMAN(R) service, a dedicated, fiber-optic, point-to-point gigabit Ethernet An Ethernet standard that transmits at 1 Gbps. Used mostly to connect high-end workstations and servers as well as for network backbones, Gigabit Ethernet transmits full duplex from point to point using switches and half duplex in a shared environment (CSMA/CD) using a hub.  service to connect all of WFSI's various locations throughout their hospitals and clinics in Milwaukee, Wis. The optical service will link the organization's local area networks to a single regional network, allowing WFSI to transmit data at exceptionally high speeds, minimize downtime and allow for augmented productivity and customer service.
