AT&T Announces Lower Prices, New Alliances and Free Software Development Kit for AT&T Chat `N Talk, Click2Dial Services.


NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 8, 1998--AT&T is aggressively moving three of its new Internet See Web 2.0 and Internet2.  technologies into the virtual mainstream with discounted introductory pricing, alliances with two leading chat sites, and a free Software Development Kit.

For the month of October, AT&T has reduced pricing for its family of AT&T Inter@ctive Communications Services:

-- AT&T Click2Dial Conferencing See teleconferencing.  which lets surfers use the Web to

set up and manage a conference call with up to 7 people without

operator assistance is only 10 cents per minute per person (a

5-cent reduction) for U.S. calls.

-- AT&T Chat `N Talk which allows anyone in a chat room to make a

phone call to other chatters while retaining their anonymity is

only 15 cents per minute (a 10-cent reduction). The 50-cent setup

fee is waived.

-- AT&T Click2Dial Directories which let Web surfers find someone in

AT&T's AnyWho(SM) directory and then auto-dial a call to that

individual is only 10 cents (a 5-cent reduction)

AT&T has signed agreements with ChatSpace, Inc. (www.chatspace.com) and Yack!, Inc., (www.yack.com) to make all three technologies available at these popular chat sites. The new relationships expand AT&T's existing distribution channel through its relationships with portal sites Noun 1. portal site - a site that the owner positions as an entrance to other sites on the internet; "a portal typically has search engines and free email and chat rooms etc.  Excite (www.excite.com), Infoseek (www.infoseek.com), and Lycos (www.lycos.com).

New Alliances

AT&T's two new alliances with ChatSpace and Yack! make AT&T Chat `N Talk more accessible to the 10 million chat users on the Web today.

ChatSpace, a leading provider of chat solutions, will offer AT&T Inter@ctive Communications to its customers through its easy-to-use chat community system for the Internet. ChatSpace solutions scale from the peer-to-peer needs of individual users to the largest online chat sites. ChatSpace also offers a chat site hosting service directly or through ISPs.

Yack! will include AT&T Chat `N Talk on its 3,400 weekly chat listings. Yack! provides a comprehensive listing of online events, cybercasts and chats. The site offers an up-to-the-minute and easily searchable data base of listings, original reviews, and editorial content. In addition, a personal e-mail reminder service of events and chats is available, making Yack! To drive development of new software applications using these technologies, AT&T will offer developers a free Software Development Kit that includes the Application Programming Interface (API (Application Programming Interface) A language and message format used by an application program to communicate with the operating system or some other control program such as a database management system (DBMS) or communications protocol. ) code and its associated documentation for AT&T Chat `N Talk and AT&T Click2Dial Conferencing. This new kit makes it easy for developers to integrate voice-enabling technology into their solutions. The conference host uses a Web interface to enter the telephone numbers of the people they want on the call. AT&T Click2Dial Directories (www.click2dial.att.com) give Web surfers and those who download the AT&T Click2Dial Conferencing software instant access to AT&T's Anywho directory (www.anywho.com) to use as an auto-dialer. You simply enter the name and state of the person to be contacted, and the phone number and address of every person matching the criteria appears. Simply click on the appropriate person and connect with him or her on a call.

The three AT&T Inter@ctive Communications services require a telephone line separate from the Internet connection, a 486 or Pentium PC with 16 MB RAM running Windows 95, and a valid credit card. They are optimized to work with Microsoft Internet Explorer See Internet Explorer.  3.02 and 4.0, and Netscape Navigator An earlier Web browser for Windows, Macintosh and X Windows from Netscape that provided secure transmission over the Internet. Soon after its introduction in 1994, Navigator, or just "Netscape," as it was commonly called, quickly became the leading browser on the Web.  3.0 or higher.
