AT&T ANNOUNCES A NEW, SIMPLIFIED BUSINESS LOCATOR SERVICE

AT&T ANNOUNCES A NEW, SIMPLIFIED BUSINESS LOCATOR SERVICE
NEW YORK, Nov. 21 /PRNewswire/ -- AT&T (NYSE: T) today announced an innovative new way for people to find the nearest location of an organization or business by dialing a single, local telephone number.
With AT&T InterSpan(SM) Locator Service, a national business or organization with many locations across the country has one seven-digit number with a "950" prefix. People can dial that number and automatically reach the nearest location.
"If you operate a national chain of food delivery stores, for example, InterSpan Locator Service brings you closer to your customers," said Ralph Andreotta, AT&T product line manager for packet and transaction services. "Customers know they can reach the outlet most convenient to them in seconds."
Interspan Locator Service, a member of the Interspan family of data communications services, is available immediately. Pricing is on a contractual basis and varies depending on the user's customized applications, unique features and size.
"AT&T is the only carrier offering this kind of service," said Priscilla Cronin, InterSpan Locator Service product manager. "It is a perfect example of how leading edge innovation can produce a deceptively simple application that customers want today."
Domino's Pizza is currently testing the service in Lansing, Mich., and Jacksonville, Fla. Customers dial 950-1430 to reach the nearest Domino's store. A benefit of the service is that easy-to-remember numbers can become identified with a particular business. For Domino's, Cronin said, 1-4-30 is the company's home delivery guarantee that customers' orders will be delivered within 30 minutes after they are placed.
Other applications could include single-number calling for car service centers, truck rental pickups, order status for manufacturing or travel agency reservations.
InterSpan Locator Service uses customer specific "950" access, which in North America is reserved for particular kinds of uses. The service is based on a customer-supplied database which associates specific business location with the phone number of the caller. The call is held while the database is searched. When a match is made, the location is dialed and the caller is connected to that location.
The service enables the customer to modify or add to the database using a simple point-of-sale type terminal that can be placed at any customer location. Detailed customized traffic reports are available by AT&T central office, customer location and by call.
