AT&T AND NOVELL ANNOUNCE THREE MARKET TRIALS FOR AT&T NETWARE CONNECT SERVICES.

SALT LAKE CITY--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 20, 1995--AT&T and Novell, Inc., today announced market trials for AT&T NetWare Connect Services, a new business data network that combines the quality, performance and reliability of the AT&T network with the ease-of-use, security and connectivity of Novell's market-leading NetWare operating system software.

Three companies -- Millard Refrigerated Services, Ziff-Davis Publishing and Hallmark Cards, Inc. -- will be the first to use features of AT&T NetWare Connect Services that eliminate the need for companies to build, maintain, and administer complex wide-area networks, AT&T and Novell announced at Novell's Brainshare Technical Conference.

In the first phase of an evolving network service, the three companies will outsource portions of their existing wide-area networks (WANs). AT&T will use the initial phase of the market trials to test the operational and physical components of the AT&T NetWare Connect Services infrastructure. A later phase will add other AT&T NetWare Connect Services features, including inter-company connectivity, frame relay, and worldwide deployment.

AT&T NetWare Connect Services bring value to companies in a variety of ways. Because AT&T administers the data network, businesses don't have to manage cumbersome modem pools or communications servers, resulting in lower capital costs. Users can easily access their local area networks by dialing either a local, 950, or an 800 number. The scalability of the platform, plus having AT&T as a single point of network administration, allows companies to focus their resources on their core strengths.

Market Trial Companies

Millard Refrigerated Services, based in Omaha, Neb., is the nation's third-largest cold storage warehouse company and the largest producer of private-label bacon. Millard will use AT&T Netware Connect Services both to send data files between headquarters and field locations as well as to allow customers to check their inventory at Millard warehouses.

Hallmark Cards, based in Kansas City, Mo., is the world's largest greeting card company, offering personal expression products in more than 20 languages to more than 100 countries. Hallmark will use AT&T NetWare Connect Services so that remote computer users and its mobile sales force across the nation can gain quick and efficient access to a variety of applications on Hallmark's computer network.

Ziff-Davis Publishing, based in New York, is the leading publisher of computer magazines in the U.S. and worldwide information provider for computer buyers, users and marketers. Publications include PC Magazine, Computer Shopper, PC Week, MacWeek and Windows Sources. Ziff-Davis will use AT&T NetWare Connect Services to provide reporters and editors, who are dispersed geographically, with simplified access to the company's network to file articles and search databases.

In a related development, AT&T and Novell also announced that AT&T's recently opened application development center in San Jose, Calif., will be expanded soon to support applications for the AT&T NetWare Connect Services environment. The San Jose center is the first of several such centers that AT&T will open this year to provide a wide range of support for software developers who want their applications to reside on AT&T's new data network.
