The players responded, posting a 62-52 over Oregon to move within 1 1/2 games of the Cardinal with only three home games remaining for the Sun Devils

Arizona State will then finish up against California California (kăl'ĭfôr`nyə), most populous state in the United States, located in the Far West; bordered by Oregon (N), Nevada and, across the Colorado River, Arizona (E), Mexico (S), and the Pacific Ocean (W).  and Arizona, whose combined league record is 10-19.

"Everybody's playing for everything right now," Turner Thorne said.

"I tried to put a little pressure on them, and say, `Hey, this is potentially for a championship and there is no margin of error for us.'

Turner Thorne admitted she was unsure how her team would deal with the "must-win" status she gave Sunday's game.

"But you've got to find out where you're at," she said.

"We certainly have been growing and maturing, and I do have a lot of confidence in this team. I know they're going to play hard, but playing smart is the thing we've really been improving on as of late."

Especially on the road, where they've won seven times this season - the most since 2000-01 - but not before losing four straight during the first half of the Pac-10 season.

"There's pressure to compete every single day in the Pac-10 because it's so tough," forward Emily Westerberg said.

"Especially for us, on the road, it's been a challenge to win. We had some stumbles at the beginning of the year.

"In order to put ourselves in first place, we really had to win this game. We know we're tough at home and will do everything it takes to win there, so we just knew we had to get it done on the road."

They did, and now the Sun Devils return to Tempe with a chance to win a league championship.

However, they will need some help from the Cardinal.

"We know it's going to be really hard, but I think we have a lot of adrenalin coming off two really big road wins," forward Amy Denson said.

"We know we have three good games left that are at home, and we're really excited. We're looking to do what we need to do."

Westerberg agreed.

"We're so excited," she said. "You can't relax, at all, but we're really comfortable at home, we have great fan support there. We want to win a championship.

"We want to win one at the Pac-10 tournament, but we also want to win one in the regular season, and we're going to do whatever it takes to win one."
