, has won an appointment to the U.S. Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs Colorado Springs, city (1990 pop. 281,140), seat of El Paso co., central Colo., on Monument and Fountain creeks, at the foot of Pikes Peak; inc. 1886. It is a year-round resort and a booming military, technological, and commercial city. .

Trafecanty, whose dream is to be an astronaut, was nominated by Rep. Howard ``Buck'' McKeon, R-Santa Clarita, to both the Navy and Air Force academies.

Trafecanty started her Air Force training as a freshman at Canyon in the Junior ROTC program. Her participation in the program and her leadership abilities helped her rise to the rank of cadet lieutenant colonel The grade of Cadet Lieutenant Colonel (abbreviated C/Lt Col) is a Phase IV Cadet Officer grade that a cadet of the Civil Air Patrol may attain. It also is the fourth milestone of five in the cadet program. The grade is synonymous with the General Ira C. Eaker Award. . She also is her division's vice group commander.

The Air Force ROTC Booster Club A booster club is an organization that is formed to contribute money to an associated club, sports team, or organization. Booster clubs are popular in American schools at the high school and university level.  helped provide her with free flight instruction. The organization also awarded her the Don Cheeseman Memorial Scholarship to defray de·fray

She has nearly completed her civilian flight instruction and hopes to have her private pilot's license this month, when she leaves for Colorado. Trafecanty plans to train as a military pilot and eventually enter the astronaut program.
