ASTM approves Zinc and Tin Alloy Wire standard.ASTM International ASTM International (ASTM) is an international standards developing organization that develops and publishes voluntary technical standards for a wide range of materials, products, systems, and services. , West Conshohocken, PA, has announced that ASTM International Committee B02 on Nonferrous non·fer·rous adj. 1. Not composed of or containing iron. 2. Of or relating to metals other than iron. nonferrous Adjective 1. Metals and Alloys has approved a new standard, B 943, Specification for Zinc and Tin Alloy Wire Used in Thermal Spraying Thermal Spray techniques are coating processes which involve spraying melted (or heated) materials onto a surface. As such thermal spraying is a line-of-sight process. The energy to heat the feedstock (coating precursor) is supplied by electrical (plasma or arc) or chemical means for Electronic Applications. The standard was developed by Subcommittee B02.04 on Zinc and Cadmium cadmium (kăd`mēəm) [from cadmia, Lat. for calamine, with which cadmium is found associated], metallic chemical element; symbol Cd; at. no. 48; at. wt. 112.41; m.p. 321°C;; b.p. 765°C;; sp. gr. 8. because no specification existed that globally covered zinc alloy and/or tin alloy used for thermal spraying applications in the electronics industry. Primary applications for the standard are capacitors and other electronic devices. |
