ASTA with NSOA announces award winners. (Items of Interest).The American String Teachers Association WITH the National School Orchestra Association (ASTA WITH NSOA NSOA - National School Orchestra Association) announces the recipients of the Potter's Violins Instrument Awards. Dalton Potter, owner of Potter's Violins in Bethesda, Maryland, donates six Rudolf Rudolf, 1858–89, Austrian archduke, crown prince of Austria and Hungary; only son of Emperor Francis Joseph and Empress Elizabeth. Upon his mysterious death at Mayerling near Vienna (officially declared a double suicide with his mistress, Baroness Maria Vetsera), his cousin Francis Ferdinand became heir to the Austro-Hungarian throne. Doetsch instruments annually to deserving and needy students, with three instruments--violins, violas or cellos of any size--awarded twice per year. The most recent recipients are Fidel Montreal, violin, McAllen McAllen, city (1990 pop. 84,021), Hidalgo co., extreme S Tex., on the Rio Grande; inc. 1911. It is a port of entry and a packing and processing center for the citrus fruit, truck crops, and other produce of the lower Rio Grande valley. The growing city has oil refineries and light manufacturing industries. It is also a winter resort, and is known as the City of Palms, since 40 varieties of that tree flourish there., Texas; Brianna Scott, cello, Valdosta Valdosta (văldŏs` tə), city (1990 pop. 29,806), seat of Lowndes co., S Ga., near the Fla. line, in a lake region; inc. 1860. Valdosta is a large naval stores market and a processing, distribution, and commercial center for a tobacco, cotton, watermelon, and livestock area., Georgia; and Daniel Mylor Young, viola, Indianapolis, Indiana.
