AST Computers Begins Shipment of the First High-Performance BeOS PCs in the U.S.

AST(R) Computers, a leading provider of complete IT solutions for small to midsize businesses, Monday announced that it had begun shipping the first high-performance personal computers featuring BeOS(R) in the United States United States, officially United States of America, republic (2005 est. pop. 295,734,000), 3,539,227 sq mi (9,166,598 sq km), North America. AST's first BeOS-equipped PC is a desktop powerhouse. Customers can configure the PREMIUM 2000Be with one or two Intel(R) Pentium(R) III processors at 600MHz (MegaHertZ) One million cycles per second. It is used to measure the transmission speed of electronic devices, including channels, buses and the computer's internal clock. A one-megahertz clock (1 MHz) means some number of bits (16, 32, 64, etc.  each. The PREMIUM 2000Be can also be ordered in a value configuration with a single Pentium III The successor to the Pentium II from Intel. Introduced in the spring of 1999 at 500 MHz, the Pentium III architecture was similar to the Pentium II with the addition of 70 new instructions optimized for multimedia (see SSE).  processor for less than $2,000.

The machine comes with both BeOS R4.5 and Windows NT (Windows New Technology) A 32-bit operating system from Microsoft for Intel x86 CPUs. NT is the core technology in Windows 2000 and Windows XP (see Windows). Gobe Productive includes word processing, spreadsheet, graphics, charting, image processing, and presentation capabilities.

AST anticipates delivering a greater variety of PCs featuring BeOS in the coming months, enabling customers to take full advantage of Be's focus on broadband digital media.
