ASSURED ENTERPRISE-WIDE MESSAGING FOR UNIX OLTP
 NOW AVAILABLE WITH ezBRIDGE TRANSACT
NEW YORK, Feb. 11 /PRNewswire/ -- Systems Strategies, Inc., a NYNEX company, today announced that the UNIX operating system is being added to the list of platforms supported by the company's ezBRIDGE(R) Transact software. Now users can develop distributed, mission-critical UNIX applications that span many platforms, including UNIX, Digital VAX/VMS, IBM mainframes (CICS), PC LANs and Tandem. A future release of the product will incorporate Transarc Corp.'s Encina recoverable queuing service.
ezBRIDGE Transact is a software package that provides reliable messaging between different transaction processing environments -- now including UNIX -- by providing recoverable queues, transaction routing and a simple API on each system.
ezBRIDGE Transact gives UNIX users the following capabilities:
-- Distributed Transaction Integrity: Because ezBRIDGE Transact logs and monitors each transaction, complete end-to-end data delivery is assured, even in a wide-area distributed network.
-- Real-time Database Synchronization: Updates performed on a departmental database can be passed automatically to the corporate database in real time. Information on the databases is continually synchronized during the day. DB2, Rdb, Sybase and Oracle are examples of the databases the ezBRIDGE Transact can synchronize.
-- Asynchronous Messaging: With ezBRIDGE Transact, the sending application does not have to wait until the remote application receives and processes the transaction. Once the message is sent, ezBRIDGE Transact stores it on a local queue. The application is then free to continue its processing. This feature is especially beneficial in the UNIX environment because asynchronous messaging lets users fully utilize the power of RISC workstations and take advantage of the price/performance combination inherent with UNIX systems.
"Adding UNIX support to ezBRIDGE Transact will help bring UNIX systems into the fast-growing OLTP arena. Currently, Systems Strategies' customers use ezBRIDGE Transact to distribute transactions between Digital VAX/VMS, IBM mainframes (CICS), PC LANs and Tandem systems," said Les Yeamans, vice president of Systems Strategies Inc. "Now, with the joint development effort, Transarc's UNIX-based product for open OLTP will be able to interoperate with these distributed, multivendor systems," he said.
Working with Systems Strategies, Transarc is developing a recoverable queuing service for its Encina product. Systems Strategies is planning to incorporate the new Encina queuing system into its ezBRIDGE Transact software. This will enable users who are developing UNIX OLTP applications on Encina to share applications with other platforms. Therefore, by combining ezBRIDGE Transact and Encina's queuing system, messages can be sent reliably throughout the entire enterprise, regardless of the underlying hardware.
"We're excited that the combination of Encina and ezBRIDGE Transact will permit interoperability between Encina transaction processing environments and the numerous others that are supported by Systems Strategies," said Alfred Spector, president and CEO of Transarc. "ezBRIDGE augments technology provided by Encina and the OSF DCE to ensure connectivity across a broad range of systems."
ezBRIDGE Transact for UNIX will be available in March 1992. Pricing for the software package is tiered, costing between $10,000 and $30,000. Support for the Encina recoverable queuing service is scheduled for October 1992.
