The Mid America Crop Protection Association, St. Louis, elects its officers for 2001. New officers include president Darrell Forkrud, Agriliance; vice president Bill Beutke, Zeneca Ag Products; secretary Jim Jenkins, Novartis Crop Protection; treasurer Ron Utterback, MFA; and past president Terry Kippley, Oil Dri Corporation.

 executive director. Maurice, who has been with the association for more than 20 years, takes over the position following the retirement of his father, Rene Maurice. The organization is one of 19 dealer associations affiliated with the North American Equipment Dealers Association.

The Biotechnology Industry Organization, Washington, D.C., has named U.S. Rep Bill Thomas (R-Calif.) and U.S. Sen. Richard Lugar (R-Ind.) as its 1999-2000

Legislators of the Year. BIO honors Thomas for his leadership in the House on health-care issues. Senate Agriculture Committee chairman Lugar was picked for working to ensure the U.S. biotech industry will continue developing innovative products to improve agriculture and other industries.

National Grain Sorghum sorghum, tall, coarse annual (Sorghum vulgare) of the family Gramineae (grass family), somewhat similar in appearance to corn (but having the grain in a panicle rather than an ear) and used for much the same purposes.
