Byline: Greg Botonis Staff Writer

LITTLEROCK - A man assaulted a Palmdale sheriff's deputy and then attempted to run him down with his car, before leading officers on a high- speed chase through at least four cities early Saturday morning, officials said. In the end, the suspect escaped.

``He jumped into his car and then tried to run the deputy over and darn near succeeded,'' said Deputy Dan McPherson of the Palmdale sheriff's station.
