ASK TO DELIVER; Stoute's fellow has class for Cup.

Byline: Garry Owen

SIR MICHAEL STOUTE Sir Michael Ronald Stoute (b. October 22, 1945) has been training horses since 1972. He was the only trainer in the 20th century to win an English Classic in five successive seasons[1] and has been Champion Trainer nine times[2].  can see no problems with Ask staying the trip in the Yorkshire Cup The Yorkshire Cup may refer to:
  • A rugby union competition for Yorkshire clubs: see Yorkshire Cup (rugby union) ("T’owd tin pot")
  • A horse race held at York Racecourse: see Yorkshire Cup (horse race)
and this lightly-raced six-year-old has the class to land this Group 2.

He raced exclusively over 10 and 12 furlongs last year but steps back up to a mile and six furlongs today. However, Stoute is unconcerned and is hoping for a bit more luck with him this season.

The trainer said: "He was second here in the Melrose over a mile and six and he was fourth in the Leger over a mile and six when that was run atYork."

Beaten just four lengths in the Arc last year Ask (2.40) looks a cut above his rivals and will take all the beating.

stage a cracking card tonight including their feature race of the season, the pounds 52,000 totepool Glasgow Listed Stakes which has drawn a top class field and the racecourse's first ever runner from the Ballydoyle yard.

Aidan O'Brien Aidan P. O'Brien (born [1]]], is an Irish horse racing trainer. He is the private trainer for John Magnier and his associates at Coolmore Stud and heads up the training operation at Ballydoyle Stables in County Tipperary.  is sending Johnny Murtagh up to Scotland to ride Stately Home, the impressive Leopardstown winner. In a field packed with quality Stately Home will be up against five other Glasgow Stakes runners including highly-regarded Emirates Champion from the Godolphin team.

However, I reckon Mark Johnston's Parthenon (7.30) could take a bit of pegging back round here under Greg Fairley.

The McGrattan Piling Braveheart Stakes has also attracted a quality field and I fancy the Michael Jarvis-trained Cape Express (8.35) to blaze home for Philip Robinson.

Hazel Peplinski, Clerk of the Course, said: "Considerable effort has gone in to promoting the two Listed races. I believe that we have been rewarded with two high-class fields, in particular the totepool Glasgow Stakes for which none of us know the true depth of talent within it at this stage."
