ASHLAND REFINERY UNIT BACK IN OPERATION; OTHER REPAIRS WILL NOT CAUSE GASOLINE PRODUCTION PROBLEMS

ASHLAND, Ky., May 20 /PRNewswire/ -- Ashland Petroleum Company, a division of Ashland Oil, Inc. (NYSE: ASH), reported today it restarted the 57,000-barrel-per-day fluid catalytic cracking (FCC) unit at its Catlettsburg, Ky., refinery.
The petroleum conversion unit had been shut down for repairs since May 6.
In addition, Ashland reported that it expects to have repairs completed in about four weeks to a 25,000 barrel-per-day crude oil processing unit at the Catlettsburg refinery. The unit was shut down May 17 following an explosion that damaged the unit.
According to Robert E. Yancey Jr., Ashland Petroleum Company president, crude oil processing at the Catlettsburg refinery is expected to be curtailed to about 200,000 barrels per day, while the crude unit is shut down for repairs. The refinery has the capacity to process 213,400 barrels of crude oil per day. Additional crude oil processing capacity will be made up during this period by the refinery's two other crude units.
Yancey said gasoline production from the refinery is not expected to be adversely affected during the period as sufficient intermediate petroleum feedstocks are available to keep downstream conversion units near capacity.
Ashland Oil, Inc. is a diversified energy company engaged in petroleum refining, transportation and marketing; retail gasoline marketing; motor oil marketing; chemicals; coal; highway construction; and oil and gas exploration and production.
