ASHES DRIFT FROM VENTURA COUNTY BLAZE; VALLEY RESIDENTS ALARMED BY SMOKE FROM OUT-OF-CONTROL BRUSH FIRE.

A huge cloud of smoke rose over Santa Clarita and parts of the San Fernando Valley San Fernando Valley

Valley, southern California, U.S. Northwest of central Los Angeles, the valley is bounded by the San Gabriel, Santa Susana, and Santa Monica mountains and the Simi Hills.
 on Tuesday night, as 150 firefighters in Ventura County fought an out-of-control wildfire that has charred some 1,000 acres.

Winds from the north blew ashes from the fire in the mountains above Fillmore and Santa Paula along State Route 126, which runs from the Six Flags Magic Mountain Six Flags Magic Mountain is an amusement park located just west of the Valencia neighborhood of Santa Clarita, north of Los Angeles. It opened on Memorial Day weekend on May 29, 1971 as Magic Mountain, by the Newhall Land and Farming Company,[1]  amusement park to Ventura.

San Fernando Valley residents, worried by the smell of smoke amid record high temperatures, called local fire stations for information about the blaze, which started about 2 p.m.

Three air tankers and three water-dropping helicopters helped battle flames.

Although the fire was mostly in the Los Padres National Forest Los Padres National Forest is a forest located in southern and central California, which includes most of the mountainous land along the California coast from Ventura to Monterey, extending inland. Elevations range from sea level to 8,831 feet.  above Fillmore, the glow of flames could be seen for miles. The only structure that appeared threatened was the Hopper Ranch, formerly used by the U.S. Forest Service for the condor program in the remote wilderness, said Joe Luna, a spokesman for the Ventura County Fire Department Not to be confused with Ventura Fire Department.

The Ventura County Fire Department (VCFD) provides fire protection and emergency response services for the unincorporated areas of Ventura County, California, and for six other cities within the county.

Meanwhile, hundreds of firefighters battled a blaze in Gorman that charred 60 acres near Copco and Quail Lake roads Tuesday night, authorities said.

The fire also forced the closure of Highway 138, said Deputy David Furedi of the Santa Clarita Valley The Santa Clarita Valley is the valley of the Santa Clara River in Southern California. It stretches through Los Angeles County and Ventura County. Its main population center is the city of Santa Clarita. The valley was part of the 48,612-acre (19,672.  sheriff's station.

The fire started about 7 p.m. The incident is under investigation.
