ASF-Keystone to manufacture rail suspension system.ASP-Keystone (Amsted Industries), Chicago, Illinois, has acquired the rights to manufacture swing motion design suspension systems for railroad freight cars from Meridian Rail, Birmingham, Alabama. Swing motion is a high performance truck for railroad freight cars that is widely used for the transportation of automobiles and other laden sensitive products such as paper-rolls for the printing industry. "Our agreement to acquire select Meridian railroad products assets was the result of Meridian's decision to exit the rail products segment of the business so that Meridian could concentrate on its other rail services," said John Wories, president of ASF ASF - Abdominal Subcutaneous Fat ASF - Acceleration Studies Foundation ASF - Accurate & Stable Frequency ASF - Acid Survivors Foundation (Dhaka, Bangladesh) ASF - Activation Support Facility ASF - Active Ship File ASF - Active Streaming Format ASF - Adaptive Sensor Fusion ASF - Adaptive Services Framework ASF - Additional Secondary Factor (LORAN-C) ASF - Additional Selection Factor ASF - Administrative Support Facility (USPS)-Keystone. "ASF-Keystone's ability to manufacture swing motion tracks will provide the industry with an established domestic source for this critical product line." According to Wories, the company would also like to broaden the application of swing motion technology to other car types in the future. "One of our goals with the acquisition is to expand its use beyond the automobile and paper industry so that more industries can benefit from the many advantages it has to offer almost any product or commodity." In order to help manufacture these components, ASF-Keystone has acquired an interest in two Chinese joint ventures. These consist of Zhuzhou Zhuzhou or Chuchow (both: j `jō`), town (1994 est. pop. 476,800), E central Hunan prov., China, on the Xiang River. It is a railroad center for lines running north-south and east-west and a center for industry. Foundry in the Hunan Hunan (h `nän`) [south of the lake], province (1994 est. pop. 63,050,500), c.80,000 sq mi (207,254 sq km), S central China, S of Dongting lake. Changsha is the capital. Province, a manufacturer of railroad side frames and bolsters (including the swing motion truck) and Datong Datong or Tatung (both: dä`t ng), city (1994 est. pop. 845,000), N Shanxi Shanxi or Shansi (shän`shē`), province (1994 est. pop. 29,910,000), c.60,000 sq mi (155,400 sq km), NE China. The capital is Taiyuan. It is bounded on the west and the south by the Huang He (Yellow River) and on the north by Inner Mongolia. Much of Shanxi is a high plateau region. prov., China. It is an important industrial and railway center in a region of great coal deposits. A major, highly mechanized coal mine is there. Locomotive Works in the Shanxi Province, a manufacturer of cast steel railroad wheels. The acquisition of the joint ventures is designed to provide the growing Chinese markets with a continued source of swing motion trucks and cast steel wheels. The acquisition will also provide the two Chinese foundries with technical support from the Amsted Rail Group. "We have further broadened our product line in order to better meet the diverse needs of the industry," Wories said. "The acquisition of swing motion is another step for ASF-Keystone to provide product solutions to meet any industry need." |
