ASE Technologies USA Aquires Knoxville Design Center and Digital Receiver Line From TV/COM; Includes the NDS IRD Technology and License to Produce.


SAN DIEGO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 13, 1999--

ASE (Adaptive Server Enterprise) A relational DBMS from Sybase that runs on Windows NT/2000, Linux and a variety of Unix platforms. ASE is a comprehensive and robust data management product with a long history dating back to the late 1980s.  Technologies (USA) Inc., a subsidiary of ASE Technologies Inc., which is a major designer and manufacturer in consumer electronics, announces the acquisition of the QAM (1) (Quality Assessment Measurement) A system used to measure and analyze voice transmission.

(2) (Quadrature Amplitude Modulation) A modulation technique that employs both phase modulation (PM) and amplitude modulation (AM).

Once the prime contractor for the TV/COM QAM receiver, ASE now has the capabilities and expertise to continue developing the digital receiver line with support from the excellent resources of TV/COM's Knoxville Design Center. This product line will allow ASE to offer low-cost, high-value set-top boxes focused on world standards -- MPEG-2 and DVB (Digital Video Broadcasting) An international digital television (DTV) standard that is the European and Far Eastern counterpart of the North American ATSC standard.  -- to valued customers throughout the world.
