BioSystems, "The need for near real time detection is a major concern in protecting each of us from the threat of environmental and biothreat agent diseases and contaminants. By identifying these threats rapidly, public safety officials can take immediate steps to treat exposed individuals and prevent additional individuals from being exposed."

In late June 2003, ASD BioSystems, Inc., finalized an option agreement with MIT to license this technology for use in the detection of environmental contaminants and biothreat agents.

ASD BioSystems, Inc. was established to fill the critical need for portable, user-friendly environmental and biothreat agent sample collection, processing, and testing devices and systems.

ASD BioSystems is developing easy-to-use collection kits and systems for coding, tracking, and pinpointing the source of environmental or biological contaminants. These systems will have applications far beyond biological terrorism defense. Other applications include biotechnology manufacturing-related environmental quality control, tracking agricultural conditions and veterinary disease spread, environmental hazard assessments, forensic evidence collection, medicine, public health, and food safety.
