ASARCO names Douglas McAllister director, government and regulatory affairs.

:AR) today announced the appointment of Douglas E. McAllister as director, government and regulatory affairs. Robert J. Muth, vice president, government and public affairs for Asarco, said that McAllister, who has been director of the law firm of Fennemore Craig in Phoenix, Arizona, will join Asarco's staff in New York City New York City: see New York, city.

Mr. McAllister has practiced law in Phoenix since 1989, primarily representing national clients with operations in western states on state permitting and compliance matters, federal and state legislation and rulemakings that affect plant operations.

Mr. McAllister spent 12 years in Washington, D.C., initially in private practice and later representing the domestic mining industry as assistant general counsel and vice president for environmental affairs for the American Mining Congress, now the National Mining Association.

In addition to his professional responsibilities, Mr. McAllister has served as chairman of the Arizona Chamber of Commerce Hazardous and Solid Waste Subcommittee and is chair-elect of the Arizona State Bar Environmental and Natural Resources Law Section. He has been a visiting lecturer at the Arizona State University Arizona State University, at Tempe; coeducational; opened 1886 as a normal school, became 1925 Tempe State Teachers College, renamed 1945 Arizona State College at Tempe. Its present name was adopted in 1958.  Law School and lectured and taught in various other educational programs.

Mr. McAllister received his J.D. in 1977 from Brigham Young University Brigham Young University, at Provo, Utah; Latter-Day Saints; coeducational; opened as an academy in 1875 and became a university in 1903. It is noted for its law and business schools. . He is admitted to practice law in Arizona, Utah and the District of Columbia District of Columbia, federal district (2000 pop. 572,059, a 5.7% decrease in population since the 1990 census), 69 sq mi (179 sq km), on the east bank of the Potomac River, coextensive with the city of Washington, D.C. (the capital of the United States). .

He and his wife, Janice, and their seven children will move to the New York New York, state, United States
