ASARCO'S Tennessee Mines Employees Vote Not to Accept Contract Offer.NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 14, 1997--ASARCO Incorporated announced today that employees at three of its zinc mines in Tennessee voted last Friday to reject a proposed three-year labor contract. The employees, represented by the International Chemical Workers Union, narrowly defeated a tentative agreement for a new three-year contract reached by the union and the Company. Approximately 320 employees at the Coy, Immel and Young mines near Knoxville are on strike. The Union and Company Negotiating Committee met on Monday and are meeting on Tuesday in an attempt to seek solutions.
