As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 128,284. Located along the Western bank of the Potomac River, Alexandria is approximately 6 miles (9.6 kilometers) south of downtown Washington, DC. , in a lawsuit involving an association's liability in the standard-setting arena. The Washington State Court of Appeals refused to overturn that verdict. ASAE's brief argues that the courts should not discourage beneficial, voluntary standard-setting activities engaged in by associations. The brief states that "the court should grant review to determine whether private associations performing the quasi-governmental task of standards development are entitled to qualified immunity." |
