ASACA Corp. today announced that its award-winning TeraCart(R) Digital Virtual Libraries (DVLs) have recently been certified for use with several of the industry's leading storage management solutions from companies including Avalon, OTG, SGL and U.S. Design.

Applications from these partners provide TeraCart users with increased data availability of interactive, broadcast-quality video and audio files. By configuring the DVLs with DVD Forum-compliant Panasonic DVD-RAM/R drives, users have the flexibility of both write-once, play-anywhere and rewritable storage for a broad range of broadcast applications.

The world's highest-density, random-access storage solutions, the TeraCart can be scaled to more than 109TB, with as many as 192 DVD-RAM/R drives and up to 11,600 rewritable and/or write-once, DVD-RAM, DVD-R and DVD video discs within a single library cabinet.

This flexibility combines with transfer rates of 2.78MB/sec and the ability to have as many as 12 drives online simultaneously, making the TeraCart an ideal mass storage solution for the broadcast industry.

Capable of 777 hours or 32 days of non-stop video playback, the TeraCart enables TV and cable/satellite stations to program and edit their schedule in advance, que up required digital data files, coordinate a sequence, and set the library for unattended broadcast and digital playback.

The ASACA DVLs are equipped with a full suite of monitoring and management capabilities that administrators can access from any Web browser. In addition to being able to read from and write to DVD-RAM, and DVD-R media, the TeraCart libraries can also read DVD-ROM, DVD-Video, CD-ROM, CD-R/RW and CD-Audio media.

Unique to ASACA, the DVL line is capable of acting as four separate libraries within a single cabinet -- each utilizing a different media technology if required. Another exclusive innovation is the DVL's robotic head, which is capable of flipping the media for fast access to either side of a double-sided disc.

Avalon, an EMC Company and the market leader for data storage management in the television broadcast industry, has certified their AVALONidm(TM) intelligent data management software solution providing flexible, customized control of broadcast files when combined with ASACA's TeraCart(TM).

The solution simplifies data management in even complex environments by automatically defining policies for maximized retrieval and automatic file migration. AVALONidm provides faster file access to industry standard DVD media.

Platform independent, USS v2.0 writes information in industry standard universal disk format (UDF), a format enabling complete data exchange and eliminating proprietary data limitations.

Price/Availability

ASACA's TeraCart DVL systems are available for immediate delivery. Individual libraries can be configured with 1 to 24 DVD-RAM, DVD-R, or combination DVD-RAM/R drives for online capacities ranging from 2.3TB to nearly 14TB. Expansion cabinets are available for up to 109TB of DVD storage.

The TeraCart AM250 starts at $30,000 and the AM1450, with 24 drives, is approximately $200,000, depending upon the options selected. Fibre Channel SAN-ready models include a built-in server and are available with an ATX or Sparc, NT or UNIX operating system.
