If CSUN CSUN California State University Northridge wants to save its season, it must find a way to win when its quarterback isn't playing well. It's not an easy task, nor one that a team can live with for any length of time. But for a week, maybe two, its necessary. That opportunity presented itself Saturday against Montana State and the 24th-ranked Matadors fell flat. They crashed big time, 32-26 at North Campus Stadium. ``We definitely have to find ways to win, and we just can rely on Marcus' arm,'' CSUN running back Jaumal Bradley said. ``The pressure comes on the running backs. We can't rely on Marcus to complete 28 of 29 passes all the time. We have to have an even, balanced attack. We can't put all the pressure on a young guy like that.'' Brady was 16 of 33 for 152 yards against Montana State. But he also threw three interceptions, the final one coming with 22 seconds to play and stopping a last-gasp rally. ``There's a reason he's not playing well, and he's getting pressure pretty heavy,'' CSUN coach Ron Ponciano said. ``Can we consistently run the ball? But I think we're becoming a better team.'' The special teams did its part against the Bobcats by blocking a pair of punts and setting up the offense with tremendous field position. However, even though the defense scored late to afford the Matadors a chance to rally, they didn't relieve any of the burden from the offense. That's nine quarters of not providing a shorter field for the offense. ``That ain't cuttin' it,'' CSUN safety Jeremy Golden said. ``We do have to learn to win when he (Brady) isn't playing well.'' |
