ARVIN ELECTS POND CEO; BAKER REMAINS CHAIRMAN

 COLUMBUS, Ind., June 17 /PRNewswire/ -- At its regular meeting today the Arvin Industries, Inc. (NYSE: ARV) board of directors elected Byron O. Pond as chief executive officer, succeeding James K. Baker, who remains as chairman of the board.
 Pond came to Arvin as president of Maremont Corporation, a company acquired by Arvin in 1986. In 1990 he was elected to the board of directors and was named executive vice president of Arvin, assuming responsibility for the automotive divisions. In 1991 he was elected president and chief operating officer of the company. Pond began his career with Federal Mogul, leaving in 1968 for Maremont Corporation, where he was named chairman, president and CEO in 1979.
 Pond was graduated from Wayne State University with a B.S. degree in Business Administration, and is a recipient of the university's Distinguished Alumni Award. He has served as chairman of the Governmental Affairs Committee of the Automotive Parts and Accessories Association and as a director of the Chicago Chamber of Commerce and Industry. He is currently a director of the Motor Equipment Manufacturers Association.
 Baker, 61, CEO of Arvin since 1981, guided the company through a period of major expansions in North America and Europe. Baker will continue to have responsibility for Calspan Corporation, public affairs, external financial and government relations and the Arvin Foundation.
