In order to achieve business objectives within an organization via information systems, user requirements must be defined in a consistent manner, prioritized and monitored.  tool. The joint-announcement was made at the Embedded Systems Embedded systems

Conference held this week in San Jose.

ARTiSAN DOORS Synchronizer enables developers using the two products to capture system requirements To be used efficiently, all computer software needs certain hardware components or other software resources to be present on a computer system. These pre-requisites are known as (computer) system requirements and are often used as a guideline as opposed to an absolute rule.  in DOORS and trace fulfillment throughout the system definition and design phases in Real-time Studio. The two-way integration also allows each design artifact A distortion in an image or sound caused by a limitation or malfunction in the hardware or software. Artifacts may or may not be easily detectable. Under intense inspection, one might find artifacts all the time, but a few pixels out of balance or a few milliseconds of abnormal sound  in Real-time Studio to be traced back to the specific system requirement and trace forward to test cases in DOORS.

Joint Marketing Agreement

ARTiSAN and QSS also announced a joint marketing agreement whereby both companies will be working together on sales calls, trade shows and seminars specifically targeted to the embedded systems market.

Improves Project Focus, Quality and Communication

ARTiSAN/DOOR Synchronizer improves system quality by enabling engineers to better understand system scope and requirements before starting development. Using this valuable integration tool also improves team communications and keeps the project on track.

A Solution Specific to the Embedded Industry

ARTiSAN's Real-time Studio specifically targets real-time system development teams in the communications, aerospace, medical electronics and computers/peripherals industries. The development process for these industries is becoming increasingly formalized for·mal·ize

, including the need to document system requirements carefully before implementing the software and hardware features of the system. Real-time Studio specifically addresses the need to formalize the system definition and design process, while QSS DOORS specifically addresses the need to formally capture and manage user and system requirements prior to system construction and throughout the development lifecycle.

"We're delighted to work with ARTiSAN Software Tools to offer an integrated solution. Their Real-time Studio tool has burst onto the real-time development scene and clearly is a hot product targeted at mainstream embedded developers," said Tom B. Dent, CEO (1) (Chief Executive Officer) The highest individual in command of an organization. Typically the president of the company, the CEO reports to the Chairman of the Board.  of QSS. "With similar price points and customer focus, this partnership is natural for both companies and of great value for our customers who want the requirements management process to be integral with the system development process."

ARTiSAN DOORS Synchronizer Features

Among its many features, ARTiSAN DOORS Synchronizer provides:

- Seamless View Navigation: The Synchronizer provides instant

access to Real-time Studio's visual representations of the module

while a designer is checking system requirements within DOORS.

- Automatic Link Generation: Modules in DOORS are automatically

created which contain DOORS objects corresponding to Real-time

Studio model elements and the relationships between them

- Traceability from Source Code: The Synchronizer enables the user

to trace a requirement in DOORS all the way to the source code

files implementing it.

- Impact Analysis: DOORS' powerful impact analysis features can be

used to access the impact of changes to requirements on the code

as well as the analysis and design models in Real-time Studio.

- Automatic Synchronization (1) See synchronous and synchronous transmission.

(2) Ensuring that two sets of data are always the same. See data synchronization.

(3) Keeping time-of-day clocks in two devices set to the same time. See NTP.
: The Synchronizer automatically keeps

DOORS objects up-to-date with their corresponding Real-time

Studio model elements in response to operations carried out by

Real-time Studio or DOORS.

ARTiSAN DOORS Synchronizer is an add-on product to the Real-time Studio suite and is available from ARTiSAN Software Tools, Inc. The interface will begin shipping December 1, 1998 at a cost of $995 for a single-user license. Multiple license discounts are available.
