Getting involved in museums traditionally has meant volunteering or donating. While those efforts always are welcome, museums this summer are enticing visitors with exhibits that invite - even expect - participation.

There still are some velvet-rope projects, such as the Norton Simon's Chinese art Chinese art, works of art produced in the vast geographical region of China. It the oldest art in the world and has its origins in remote antiquity. (For the history of Chinese civilization, see China.  and the Getty Center's baroque drawings and royal manuscripts. But there also are the multimedia treats ``NANO'' and ``L.A: light/motion/dreams'' and the ever-popular butterfly pavilion at the Natural History Museum. The Japanese American National Museum The Japanese American National Museum opened its doors in 1992. The museum is located in the Little Tokyo area near downtown Los Angeles, California.
