The band, who describe themselves as "anti-glam Casio kittens" and name their biggest influence as French dance heroes Justice, started making a name for themselves last year. I Kno U Want It is released on Monday, with the official launch party and gig next Thursday (February 19) at the O2 Academy, with support from Bells for Rene and Little Fields. The five-piece electro-pop group met while students at Liverpool University and as well as their own club shows have supported bands including Hadouken, The Faint, and Iglu and Hartly. in various bands and stuff," says singer Jen.
"We decided to start writing tunes, got off to a strong start and started playing shows, and it seemed to be going down really well." The one-off limited edition single will be available on 7" vinyl and digital download It's a new way of operating for Soft Toy Emergency, who like to give their music away for free whenever possible. A homemade video - made for a grand total of pounds 70 - can be seen on Youtube. "To be compared to someone writing really good pop music is no bad thing - and so far no-one has said we're a worse version of them," Jen laughs. "But I kind of feel we're still developing as a band and we're changing our set all the time to find what's definitely our kind of sound." Constant fixtures on the Liverpool club scene (they mostly gig at weekends to work around job commitments), they say the city is a great place to be. Jen says: "We really enjoy our shows in Liverpool and I think especially club nights like Evol have been perfect for us. "We've played Sound City and Liverpool Music Week and I've really enjoyed being part of it. Musically, it's an exciting time to be a band coming out of Liverpool."
