SHE was the screen goddess,he the screen idol. And their first film together proved they were a magiccouple.

The love scenes in Flesh and the Devil betrayed what the two had tried to disguise: they were lovers off-screen as well as on.

The teaming of GretaGarbo and John Gilbert was the box office sensation of 1926 but the film is rarely seen today.

It is to be revived one more time on the big screen in Liverpool at a showing in the Philharmonic Hallas part of a special film and music season. The silent film - about temptress Garbo inspiring a duel between her husband and a soldier - will have an orchestral accompaniment from the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic The Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra based in Liverpool, England, is one of the world's oldest established orchestras. It is part funded by the local authority, and is administered by the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Society (RPLS), a registered charity.  at the screening on 26 June.

Conductor Carl Davis has also written the score for the film which is famed for its luminous camer work as much as its (for then) risque ris·qué

The performance is part of a FILMharmonic season featuring films with orchestral accompaniments.

Another silent film,Charlie Chaplin's 1928 comedy The Circus, will open the season on 19 June in a programme titled Send In The Clowns.

The Phil will again accompany Chaplin's circus-based movie which includes a number of extraordinary Chaplin stunts including his walking a tight-rope while attacked by monkeys.

Rossini, Walton and Offenbach will be played at the concert as well as Chaplin's composition Smile. Chaplin also wrote the score for his film.

On June 24, Margot Fonteyn and Rudolph Nureyev appear in a 1966 filmed version of Romeo and Juliet Romeo and Juliet

 Acts II and III but with the Prokofiev score played live by the Phil. Other ballet music will be played at theconcert.

The movie Chicago will also be screened on 2 0 June - this time with its owns oundtrack. It will, however, be shown on the Philharmonic Hall's famous art deco Walturdaw Cinema Screen.
