ARTS CENTER'S FUNDING QUESTIONED.

State Sen. Richard Alarcon, D-Van Nuys, said Monday night that he supports a proposal for a $750,000 cultural arts center project at San Fernando San Fernando, city, Argentina

The city is working with the school district and Time Warner on the first phase of the cultural arts center project at the middle school auditorium, which is slated to contain a state-of-the-art computer graphics laboratory and other cultural arts facilities.

San Fernando officials met with Alarcon on Monday to solicit his support for the cultural arts project and other city needs.

Some of the other projects of special concern in the city include a retail shopping center shopping center, a concentration of retail, service, and entertainment enterprises designed to serve the surrounding region. For the cultural arts center, Alarcon recommended that the city team up with entertainment studios to give San Fernando more leverage in getting the needed funding.

``I think it's a great project. This region definitely needs a cultural entertainment program,'' he said. ``This (entertainment) is the top industry in the region.''

He also outlined some of his pending legislation, including SB 510 for a bond measure that would provide $980 million for affordable housing.

The funds would help first-time home buyers with down-payment assistance and provide low-interest loans for construction of apartments for senior citizens, the disabled, working families and farm workers.
