ARTS AND CRAFTS CHAIN WILL BUILD A.V. WAREHOUSE; MICHAELS TO DELIVER 130 JOBS.

Michaels Stores Incorporated, the arts and crafts arts and crafts, term for that general field of applied design in which hand fabrication is dominant. After two years of negotiations, city officials and representatives of Michaels announced plans for 432,000-square-foot distribution center to be built at Avenue H and 35th Street West. Plans call for Michaels to break ground on the project in September and be ready for operations in May, officials said.

To attract the company, Lancaster is providing Michaels with 40 acres. The land is part of 221 acres the city acquired early this year for the warehouse operation and to accommodate a new fairgrounds n. pl. 1. same as fairground. . The city also will pick up the tab for approximately $1.6 million in development impact fees, city officials said.

Located near the Antelope Valley Freeway The Antelope Valley Freeway is a freeway in Los Angeles and Kern counties in southern California. It is signed as California State Highway 14 along its length. It connects Greater Los Angeles to the rapidly developing Antelope Valley. , the project is expected to spur development of the Fox Field Corridor - an area of about 8,000 acres between avenues E and H and between 70th Street West and the freeway.

A city plan for the area envisions a landscaped campus for industrial and high-technology businesses, as well as a central location for professional and administrative offices.

Development of the Fox Field Corridor, as envisioned by city officials, would include parks, greenbelts and golf courses.
