, '60s hit-maker Johnny Rivers and contemporary jazz artist Boney James James "Boney James" Oppenheim, (born September 1, 1961 in Lowell, Massachusetts) is a saxophonist who popularized urban jazz (an updated version of contemporary jazz that contains elements of hip-hop).

Boney James is a two-time Grammy nominee and a Soul Train Award winner.

``The concert series is a great family event,'' said Palmdale Mayor Jim Ledford. ``These events expose our community to top of the line entertainment and really showcase what our community has to offer.''

Chesney, who holds an Academy of Country Music award and has recorded nine top-20 country singles, will kick off the Starlight series July 17.

Rivers, whose hits include ``Poor Side of Town'' and ``Secret Agent Man,'' will perform July 24.

James, whose ``How Forever Feels'' is now on the Billboard charts On January 4, 1936, Billboard magazine published its first music hit parade and on July 20, 1940 the first Music Popularity Chart was calculated. Since 1958 the Hot 100 has been published, combining single sales and radio airplay. , will perform Aug. 7.

All three Summer Starlight concerts will begin at 8 p.m. and be held at Marie Kerr Park, 39700 30th St. West in Palmdale. There is no charge for any of the concerts.

This year's Fall Festival, Palmdale's 14th, will be held as usual at McAdam Park, 38115 30th St. East in Palmdale. The Headliner head·lin·er

 Stage performances by Clark and Jett will be included in the admission fee of $5 for adults and $3 for children ages 6 to 12 and for seniors.

Clark, who currently holds a top-20 spot on the charts for her single ``Every Time I Cry,'' will perform at 5:30 p.m. Oct. 9.

``She's probably one of the hottest talents in country music,'' said Steve Buffalo, Palmdale special events manager. ``Her concert is sure to bring in a lot of people.''

Closing out the two-day festival will be Jett, called the ``mother of female rockers,'' and her band the Blackhearts at 4 p.m. Oct. 10.

``(Jett) is our first female rock 'n' roll rock 'n' roll: see rock music.  performer,'' said Buffalo. ``And I think this will also be our strongest lineup.''
