ARTHUR SOUTHAM, M.D. NAMED PRESIDENT AND CEO OF HSI'S HEALTH NET SUBSIDIARY.

: HQ)(HSI), today announced the appointment of Arthur M. Southam, M.D. as president and chief executive officer (CEO (1) (Chief Executive Officer) The highest individual in command of an organization. Typically the president of the company, the CEO reports to the Chairman of the Board. ) of the company's Health Net subsidiary, effective July 1, 1996. Dr. Southam replaces Michael Gallagher, who held the posts on an interim basis until recently.

Dr. Southam, 39, joins Health Net from CareAmerica, another California HMO, where he was president and CEO. Dr. Southam had been at CareAmerica for 11 years. He was educated at Amherst College in Amherst, Mass. and received his M.D. from the School of Medicine at the University of California, Los Angeles UCLA comprises the College of Letters and Science (the primary undergraduate college), seven professional schools, and five professional Health Science schools. ). He also received a Master of Public Health degree from UCLA and a Masters degree in Business Administration from Pepperdine University. In addition, he is the current chairman of the California Association of HMOs (CAHMO), a position he will retain.

HSI also announced today the appointment of Michael Pugh as president and chief executive officer of QualMed, the company's other principal operating subsidiary. Mr. Pugh also reports to Mr. Gellert. Dale Berkbigler, M.D., former president of QualMed, has assumed the post of vice chairman of HSI's board of directors and chief medical officer for the company.
