ART Provides Voice Recognition Technology To Industry's Top Cellular Phone Manufacturers; ART Teams With Samsung, Motorola and LGIC to Deliver Easy Interface With Cellular Phones.CHATSWORTH, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 3, 1997--Advanced Recognition Technologies, Inc. (ART), a developer of technologically superior speech and handwriting recognition Handwriting recognition is the ability of a computer to receive intelligible handwritten input. The image of the written text may be sensed "off line" from a piece of paper by optical scanning (optical character recognition). engines, today announced strategic partnerships with leading cellular phone manufacturers. Samsung Electronics Samsung Electronics (SEC, Hangul:삼성전자; KSE: 005930, KSE: 005935, LSE: SMSN, LSE: SMSD) is a South Korean multinational corporation and the world's largest and leading electronics and information technology company. , Motorola, and LGIC LGIC Ligand Gated Ion Channels (cell signalling) LGIC Line Group ISDN Controller are partnering with ART to provide voice recognition dial-up capability with their cellular phone products. Motorola utilizes ART's smARTspeak -- their line of car kits for their Micro Tac, Elite and GSM cellular phones. The product is called DIALog in Israel and DIALon in Europe and the United States United States, officially United States of America, republic (2005 est. pop. 295,734,000), 3,539,227 sq mi (9,166,598 sq km), North America. The United States is the world's third largest country in population and the fourth largest country in area. . Motorola's car kit module plugs into Motorola's standard line of amplified and non-amplified car kits to provide speech activated dialing with the car it is installed. This product enables the dialing of a number simply by the user speaking the requested name, from the previously stored contact list. ART's noise immunity system ensures high recognition regardless of a noisy car environment. It also supports multiple users, allowing a husband and wife to have a separate contact list. For example, when the husband says "call Mom" it will call his Mom, and when the wife says "call Mom" it calls her Mom. ART also provides a convenient voice memo to record cellular calls while talking, or record a memo for later playback while not on the phone. This voice memo is great for recording the number when calling information for a phone number, thus not requiring you to write the number down while driving. Then the user needs only to activate the memo playback to hear the recorded number. Other manufacturers have also turned to ART to port its patent pending smARTspeak software engine for their phone designs. The solution offers cellular phone users an easy interface in mobile environments that yield a voice recognition rate of over 95%. ART has outlined an agreement with Samsung Electronics to include its voice recognition software in Samsung's two new CDMA (Code Division Multiple Access) A method for transmitting simultaneous signals over a shared portion of the spectrum. The foremost application of CDMA is the digital cellular phone technology from QUALCOMM that operates in the 800 MHz band and 1.9 GHz PCS band. cellular phone models currently shipping in Korea. Samsung chose the ART smARTspeak software in order to offer its customers ease-of-use dialing in cellular phone applications for their Anycall SCH-370 and SCH-350 CDMA cellular phones. ART worked with Samsung on launching the voice dialing speech recognition algorithm by just flipping open the flip covering the keypad, making it very easy for the user to activate the speech recognition from ART. LG Information & Communications has also bundled ART's smARTspeak technology with two new cellular phone models. The new LGIC Freeway phones (the SP-1000 and SP-2000) are also being shipped currently in Korea and were recently shown in the U.S. at the recent PCS (1) (Personal Communications Services) Refers to wireless services that emerged after the U.S. government auctioned commercial licenses in 1994 and 1995. ART ported their speech recognition engine to the QualComm CDMA chip set for both LG and Samsung line of phones, with no hardware changes. This is unique, since no speech PCM (1) See phase change memory. ART had developed a method to perform speech recognition from the compressed digital output from the vocoder (VOice CODER) Same as speech codec. ART's smARTspeak engine drives the voice recognition solution for each company and has also been successfully ported for the GSM standard as well. ART has recently teamed with a number of major cellular European cellular phone manufactures to port their speech algorithm to the GSM cellular standard. smARTspeak is a compact yet powerful voice recognition software only solution that is easily incorporated into cell phones and computer related products, utilizing the existing hardware in the cellular phone, without requiring a DSP (1) (Digital Signal Processor) A special-purpose CPU used for digital signal processing applications (see definition #2 below). It provides ultra-fast instruction sequences, such as shift and add, and multiply and add, which are commonly used in math-intensive chip. smARTspeak adapts to the individual user's voice, regardless of language or accent. Users can say commands in a normal speaking voice, as smARTspeak compensates for variations in tone and background noise using advanced signal processing See DSP. and pattern recognition technologies. All the user needs to do is say the name of the party to be called, and smARTspeak will dial the number. "The engine's patent pending algorithm, includes a robust built-in noise immunity algorithm, that ensures high recognition accuracy regardless of the types of background noise present," said Richard McCaskill, executive vice president and general manager, "This engine is ideal speech recognition for the diverse mobile environments of cellular phones." smARTwriterrecognition products are available now through the smARTshop page on the ART web site, located at http://www.artcomp.com Advanced Recognition Technologies, Inc.
