Fiber art exhibition opens June art walk

A wide range of art events will take place downtown Friday in addition to the official First Friday Art Walk.

Mary Jane Moffat's "Visions in Fiber Art" opens with a reception at 5:30 p.m. Friday at the New Zone Gallery, 164 W. Broadway, and runs through June 29.

Music will be provided by Darcy DuRuz and Ben Farrell.

Moffat is a third-generation Oregonian, born in 1929. She was awarded the Purple Heart while serving her country as a medic medic: see alfalfa.  in Korea.

Also that evening, the Oregon Bach Festival The Oregon Bach Festival is an annual celebration of the works of Johann Sebastian Bach, held in Eugene, Oregon in late June and early July. It was co-founded by German conductor Helmuth Rilling and the former president of the American Choral Directors Association, Royce Saltzman,  will offer a free mini-concert at 6 p.m. at the Eugene Public Library, 100 W. 10th Ave. The festival's George Evano will host a preview of its 2009 offerings, including a sampling of the "Messiah Project" memorial concerts honoring G.F. Handel.

Eugene's fine woodworking guild, the Splinters, will hold a closing reception for its first Spring Show from 5:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. Friday at 873 Willamette St.

Artist Bets Cole will be on hand for the opening reception of her new show of watercolors, "Summer Blooms," at La Follette Gallery, 931 Oak St. The reception is from 5:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. Friday

White Lotus Gallery will hold an open house for jewelry artists Suzanne Linquist and Christine Sundt, from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Friday, as well as from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, at the gallery at 767 Willamette St.

Broadway, will hold a reception for a show of student works in various media, including papier-mch, linoleum linoleum (lĭnō`lēəm), resilient floor or wall covering made of burlap, canvas, or felt, surfaced with a composition of wood flour, oxidized linseed oil, gums or other ingredients, and coloring matter.  cut, woodcut woodcut

Hallie Ford has works by Robert McCauley

A 20-year survey of work from Robert McCau ley, a Mount Vernon, Wash., mixed-media artist, will be on display Saturday through Aug. 2 at the Hallie Ford Museum of Art The Hallie Ford Museum of Art is the art museum of Willamette University in Salem, Oregon, United States. Organized by museum director John Olbrantz, the exhibition features 24 works drawn from public and private collections in Washington, California, Idaho and Illinois.

"Robert McCauley: Rapids and Pools" will showcase the artist's exploration of 19th century moral and ethical issues and their contemporary consequences.

McCauley will discuss his life and art in a presentation from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. Friday in the Roger Hull Lecture Hall at the museum. A preview reception will follow.

McCauley received his bachelor of arts degree from Western Washington University Western Washington UniversityWWU or Western) is one of six state-funded, four-year universities of higher education in the U.S. state of Washington. DIVA's annual garden party will be July 18

"Under the Crescent Moon" will be the theme for the Downtown Initiative for the Visual Arts' third annual fundraising gARTen Party, to be held July 18 at the gardens of Spud and Paula Freeman in Junction City.

The two acres of spacious gardens, connected by walkways from one to another, include a rose garden, parterre parterre

The evening also will feature a silent auction of juried garden art.

Cost is $105 per person, which includes dinner, motor coach transportation from downtown and musical entertainment. Reservations can be made starting Friday at DIVA, 344-3482, 110 W. Broadway.

Advance payment is required to hold a reservation.

Local organizations receive cultural grants

The Lane County Cultural Coalition officially will award $30,225 to 19 local organizations in a ceremony at 5 p.m. Friday at the Jacobs Gallery at the Hult Center, Seventh Avenue and Willamette Street.

The coalition disperses funds from the Oregon Cultural Trust for Lane County.

The organizations receiving money are the Boots and Sandals Square Dance Club Square dance clubs are the primary form for organization within the recreational activity of square dancing, and more specifically modern Western square dance.
