ART NOTES.Byline: The Register-Guard Mayan paintings on display at Opus6ix `Project Arte Maya Atitlan' runs through Feb. 28 at Opus6ix, 22 W. Seventh Ave. The exhibit has contemporary oil paintings by the Tz'utuhil Maya of Guatemala, including paintings by featured artist Diego Isaias Hernandez Mendez. Project Arte Maya Atitlan director, David Mahoney, and the gallery created the show with help from a Lane Arts Council grant. Mendez will be in residence at the gallery throughout the month to hold discussions and painting workshops. Film explores `Architecture of Decency' A documentary film "Rural Studio - An Architecture of Decency" will be shown free at 7 p.m. Tuesday in Room 177 Lawrence Hall at the University of Oregon. In the film, the late architect Sam Mockbee shows the potential of affordable design by taking college students to build houses in Hale County, Ala., one of the poorest areas in the country. LCC gallery show features two part-time teachers Work by photographer Susie Morrill and artist Robin Seloover is on display at the Lane Community College Art Gallery, 4000 E. 30th Ave., through Feb. 22. The artists will give a gallery lecture at 2:30 p.m. today, with a reception to follow. Both teach part time at LCC. Painter plans to donate proceeds to Darfur aid Eugene artist Laurie Stumpp Mowry is offering to sell three of her paintings of African women and donate all proceeds to the Save Darfur Coalition. The paintings will be sold in a silent auction this weekend at the Copper Penny Antiques and Collectibles Sale at the Lane Event Center, 796 W. 13th Ave. Hours are 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday. Admission is $3. Monthly Florence art tour is Saturday This month's Florence Art Walk begins at 3 p.m. Saturday at the Florence Event Center, 715 Quince St. Jan Jagoe will lead the walk, which includes bus transportation to various galleries, including Cafe of Life, Oliver's Art, Backstreet Gallery and the River Gallery. Nature painter to talk about his work Nature and wildlife artist Terry Isaac will talk about his work from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday at Emerald Art Center, 500 Main St., Springfield. Isaac works in acrylics and does realistic depictions of the natural world. Admission is $10. |
