Photo and poetry exhibit celebrates the coast

An exhibit of images and words from 20 local photographers and 16 poets celebrates the Oregon Coast The Oregon Coast is a geographical term that is used to describe the coast of Oregon along the Pacific Ocean. Stretching 362 miles from Astoria to the California border, the Oregon Coast is unique in that the whole coastline is public land.  at Oregon State University's Giustina Gallery through Dec. 30.

Organized by the Willamette Valley The Willamette Valley (pronounced [wɪˈlæ.mɪt], with the accent on the second syllable) is the region in northwest Oregon in the United States that surrounds the Willamette River as it proceeds northward from its  PhotoArts Guild, "The Oregon Coast: Visions and Perspectives" features more than 50 photographs in a variety of media, from traditional silver prints to digital prints to hand-colored images and other alternative processes.

The exhibit is the latest edition of the PhotoArts Guild's biennial project to inspire the community with artistic interpretations of the region's visual heritage. Previous exhibits have celebrated Mary's Peak in 2001 and the Willamette basin in 2003.

The gallery - in OSU's LaSells Stewart Center, 26th Street and Western Boulevard in Corvallis - is open weekdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Arts 2005 exhibit to hold reception in Florence

The annual Celebrate Arts 2005 Exhibit at the Florence Events Center Galleries is open through Saturday.

Jurors Saralyn Hilde and Barbara Sobo Gast have selected artwork for the general exhibit from 300 pieces of local and regional art submitted by 109 artists.

A reception with the artists will be held at the galleries from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday as part of the GALA Art Walk. to hold gift show

Nature-themed art created by artists who use wood, rocks, clay and glass will be on sale Friday and Saturday at the annual Nature's Designers Gift Show at the University of Oregon The University of Oregon is a public university located in Eugene, Oregon. ViewMaster art coming

to DIVA on Friday

Portland artist Vladimir will bring her handmade ViewMaster and audience participation program to DIVA, 110 W. Broadway, at 8 p.m. Friday. Admission is $5.

Springfield seeking

new arts commissioners

Springfield is accepting applications from resident or business owners in the city to fill three vacancies on its nine-member volunteer Arts Commission. The commission promotes visual and performance arts in Springfield.

The deadline to submit applications is 5 p.m. Friday. Application packets are available at the city manager's office, 225 Fifth St., Springfield, during regular business hours BUSINESS HOURS. The time of the day during which business is transacted. Cheap Jewelry Sale

to be held at UO

The 11th annual Cheap Jewelry Sale will be held from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday in the lobby of Lawrence Hall at the University of Oregon.

Intermediate and advanced students of the art department's metalsmithing and jewelry program will present at least 400 pieces of jewelry. Each student is responsible for making 20 to 40 pieces, including rings, pendants, brooches and earrings.

Materials range from silver to nontraditional materials such as plastic and rubber.

All pieces will be sold for $15; the sale is to raise money for guest lectures and studio equipment.

Fiber art returns to Springfield Museum

The reception will begin at 5 p.m. Friday for the eighth annual Tactile Expressions exhibit, which opens Tuesday and runs through Dec. 3 at the Springfield Museum, 550 Main St.
