Charcoal drawings and expressive sculpture by Oakland, Calif., artist Benjamin Brown are on exhibit at Fenario Gallery, 881 Willamette St., through Aug. 3.

The exhibition features a variety of glass and metal sculptures with the drawing.

`Life can suck. Art can make it better,' Brown says. `Much of my work is about the cycle of addiction and recovery.''

Born in New England New England, name applied to the region comprising six states of the NE United States—Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and Connecticut. The region is thought to have been so named by Capt. , Brown was introduced to glass in 1998, and fascination with the molten material and his immediate progression within the medium captivated cap·ti·vate

The gallery is also showing paintings by Eugene artist Richard Quigley.

Watercolor artist

to offer demonstration

Val Persoon will demonstrate her loose watercolor technique at Emerald Art Center, 500 Main St., Springfield, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Monday.

The public is invited. The cost is $5 for members of the art center and $10 for nonmembers.

Persoon also plans a three-day watercolor techniques workshop at Emerald Art Center on June 19-21.
