ART NOTES.Byline: The Register-Guard Retired professor, student share exhibit "Cultural Landscapes," an exhibit of work by Ken O'Connell and Robert Adams, opens with a reception from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Friday at the Hult Center's Jacobs Gallery, Seventh Avenue and Willamette Street. The artists will give a gallery talk from 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. today. The show runs through April 21. O'Connell is retired from the art department at the University of Oregon. His work will include large scale prints and sketchbooks he has made during travels in Italy. Adams is a graduate student in art at the UO. His works in the show are primarily mixed-media paintings. Lecture to explore life of artist Maude Kerns Frances Yates Church will talk about the life of artist Maude Kerns in a free lecture at 2 p.m. Saturday at Maude Kerns Art Center, 1910 E. 15th Ave. Church wrote her thesis on Kerns when she received a degree in education from the University of Oregon. Eugene ceramic artist in Smithsonian show Eugene ceramics artist Ken Standhardt of Eugene has been selected to exhibit his work at the juried Smithsonian Craft Show in Washington, D.C., in April. He is one of two Oregonians and 20 ceramics artists among the 120 invited to attend the prestigious show. Photographer to speak at Portland Art Museum Photographer Elliott Erwitt talks at the Portland Art Museum at 7 p.m. Friday in connection with an exhibit of his work, "Personal Best," which runs through April 29. Admission is $25, $30 including a 5:30 p.m. reception with Erwitt. Mural by Springfield artist chosen for event A mural designed by Springfield artist Colleen Patricia Williams for Clergy and Laity Concerned has been chosen as one of 39 to be displayed in the Embracing Our Differences project in Sarasota, Fla., in April. She worked with a dozen youths to create the 12-foot-by-16-foot billboard, which shows an Earth built of puzzle pieces, with text that begins, "Every person is a piece of the human puzzle ..." Wine shop displays paintings WineStyles is showing oil paintings by Margaret Leutizinger, Kimberly Strong, Dorothy Dunn, Mavelle Monsalve-Featherstone, Suma Elan and Gayle Del Grosso through April.
