Warhol paintings at Schnitzer this weekend

Ten paintings from Andy Warhol's athlete series of 1977-79 will be on display at the University of Oregon's Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art is an art museum located on the campus of the University of Oregon in Eugene, Oregon. The original building was designed by Ellis F. Lawrence as part of his "main university quadrangle," now known as the Memorial Quadrangle.  on Saturday and Sunday only.

They are owned by Seattle collector Richard Weisman, a friend of the late artist.

It was at Weisman's urging that Warhol decided to do the series, including images of Muhammad Ali Muhammad Ali, pasha of Egypt
Muhammad Ali, 1769?–1849, pasha of Egypt after 1805. He was a common soldier who rose to leadership by his military skill and political acumen.

The museum is at 1430 Johnson Lane on the UO campus. Weekend hours are 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission is $5 adults; $3 seniors and students. Admission is free to UO students, faculty and staff members with ID, and children 13 and under.

Bev Soasey assemblages

Eugene artist Bev Soasey will give a gallery lecture at 3 p.m. today about "Visual Stories," her exhibit of mixed-media assemblages at the Lane Community College Art Department Gallery.

Soasey describes her assemblages as studies of textures, patterns and color.

The show closes Feb. 21. Gallery hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Thursday.

Mark Clarke exhibit

opens this week

An exhibit of new paintings by Eugene artist Mark Clarke opens Tuesday at Karin Clarke Gallery, 760 Willamette St.

Clarke, 70, is best known for his moody, atmospheric paintings of the Willamette Valley. Half of this the show consists of figurative works. And two are still-life compositions in which he has placed flowers in front of one of his figurative paintings and done what he calls ``a painting from a painting.''

An artist's reception will be held at the gallery from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Feb. 18.

Children's art on sale

to support Head Start

The annual Art From the Heart auction of children's art, a fundraiser for Head Start, starts at 5:30 p.m. today at Cafe Today in the Public Service Building, 125 E. Eighth Ave.

Children from local Head Start programs created art for the event.

Art From the Heart supports programs that provide education, socio-emotional development, physical and mental health, and nutrition for low-income children 3 to 5 years old. This year's auction proceeds are designated for playground and facilities development.

Drawing, painting

and feathers at OSU (Open Source UNIX) Refers to the Unix variants that are maintained as open source, which were primarily BSD Unix and Linux until Sun made its Solaris operating system open source in 2005.  

An exhibit of artworks that incorporate feathers - by Helena, Mont., artist Sandra Dal Poggetto - runs Monday through March 6 in Fairbanks Gallery at Oregon State University Oregon State University, at Corvallis; land-grant and state supported; coeducational; chartered 1858 as Corvallis College, opened 1865. In 1868 it was designated Oregon's land-grant agricultural college and was taken over completely by the state in 1885.  in Corvallis.

A reception will be held at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday.
