ART Introduces its Award Winning Handwriting Recognition Software for Windows CE 2.0 Platform.

ART's smARTwriter and smARTwriter PLUS Handwriting

Recognition for Windows CE (Windows Consumer Electronics) Microsoft's version of Windows for handheld devices and embedded systems that use x86, ARM, MIPS and SHx CPUs. Windows CE .NET superseded Windows CE 3.0.  2.0 Adds Features and Enhancements

Advanced Recognition Technologies Inc. (ART), a leading provider of recognition engines for speech and handwriting, today announced the launch of smARTwriter(R) and smARTwriter PLUS(R), for Windows CE 2.0.

smARTwriter for Windows CE 2.0 is a handwriting recognition Handwriting recognition is the ability of a computer to receive intelligible handwritten input. The image of the written text may be sensed "off line" from a piece of paper by optical scanning (optical character recognition).  software package for handheld PCs (HPCs) and adds handwriting recognition capabilities to any Windows CE 2.0 application.

"After the success of the first version of smARTwriter for Windows CE, we were eager to top ourselves with a more enhanced version for our Windows CE 2.0 launch," said Richard McCaskill, ART executive vice president and general manager. "At a time when portable applications seem to demand more and more memory, this powerful application uses minimal memory and processing power."

smARTwriter for Windows CE 2.0 adds handwriting recognition capabilities to any Windows CE application. Regardless of where the user writes on the screen, the recognized word or character will automatically be entered where the cursor is located. smARTwriter adapts to any user's unique writing style. Initial training takes only five minutes, and users can make corrections and additions on-the-fly using pop-up windows.

The new smARTwriter for Windows CE 2.0 works with both Windows CE 2.0 and on Windows CE 1.0 devices, as well as, all H/PCs from manufacturers such as Casio, Sharp, HP, Philips, Hitachi, NEC (NEC Corporation, Tokyo, www.nec.com, www.necus.com) An electronics conglomerate known in the U.S. for its monitors. In Japan, it had the lion's share of the PC market until the late 1990s (see PC 98).

 and LG. The new smARTwriter 2.0 has been improved with the following new features:

1. Improved Recognizer.

2. Ink Control -- width control has been added to increase visability.

3. Color Control -- the ability to control the color of the ink has been added for use on the new color H/PCs.

4. Enhanced recognition option -- a new feature enables the user to start and train his library based on a minimal set of characters, an option which minimizes the mix-up of recognitions later.

5. Correction -- a new feature that enables the user to use the Correction option for old written text, as well as, for the last written session.

6. Main Menu -- standardized and includes a convenient and standard "Properties" entry.

7. Main Menu -- can be opened by using a double-tap or ALT+tap.

8. Correction vector -- a main menu access was added.

Users can expand the capabilities of smARTwriter for Windows CE 2.0 with the smARTwriter PLUS add-ons from ART. smARTwriter PLUS for Windows CE 2.0 provides smARTscribble and Ink Pad ink pad ink nStempelkissen nt  utilities. smARTscribble gives Windows CE H/PC H/PC - Hand-held Personal Computer  users a robust drawing tool with color capability and refined editing features that adds to the practicality of handheld devices. Ink Pad provides special editing tools not available with standard word processing word processing, use of a computer program or a dedicated hardware and software package to write, edit, format, and print a document. Text is most commonly entered using a keyboard similar to a typewriter's, although handwritten input (see pen-based computer) and  applications, turning the HPC (Handheld PC) A palmtop computer that weighs less than one pound and runs specialized versions of popular applications. smARTwriter for Windows CE is available now for purchase and download through the smARTshop page on the ART Web site, located at http://www.artcomp.com . smARTwriter for Windows CE is priced at $49.95, and the smARTwriter PLUS package, including smARTscribble and Ink Pad is priced at $69.95. Current users of smARTwriter version 1.3 or earlier, may upgrade to smARTwriter Plus 2.0 for $39.95 or smARTwriter 2.0 for $29.95.
