ART EXHIBIT PAINTS A PICTURE OF PASADENA.

David Jonason has been painting the town. His new exhibit, "Bungalows & Roses," concentrates on familiar vistas throughout Pasadena.

There will be 15 works on display at Michael Hollis Fine Art in South Pasadena South Pasadena (păs'ədē`nə), city (1990 pop. 23,936), Los Angeles co., S Calif., a residential suburb of Los Angeles; inc. 1888. Medical supplies, clothing, and transportation and electronic equipment are manufactured. , including Jonason's renderings of the Gamble, Blacker and Pitcairn Houses by Greene & Greene and residences from Bungalow Heaven.

"These bungalows are very iconic for the California lifestyle, like patios are," Jonason said.

He adds that California is important in the realm of residential architecture, as homes are not merely a place to live but a celebration of design. They also have an intimate connection with nature.

"Pasadena is home to 23 parks, more than 1,000 acres of parkland, plus countless gardens," Jonason said. "I've tried to capture the interaction between the architecture and the garden settings."

Jonason employs elements of cubism cubism, art movement, primarily in painting, originating in Paris c.1907. Cubist Theory


Cubism began as an intellectual revolt against the artistic expression of previous eras.

"I try to use slashes of light and highlights to emphasize the overall shape of the building," Jonason said.

Still, with the clean lines and bright colors, you can recognize the buildings and homes in his paintings.

Jonason grew up in Pacific Palisades Palisades, cliffs along the west bank of the Hudson River, NE N.J. and SE N.Y., extending from N of Jersey City, N.J., to the vicinity of Piermont, N.Y., with a general altitude of from 350 ft to 550 ft (107–168 m).  and has been into drawing and painting all his life. He majored in art at California State University, Northridge CSUN offers a variety of programs leading to bachelor's degrees in 61 fields and master's degrees in 42 fields. The university has over 150,000 alumni. He has been a commercial artist, producing illustrations for Fortune 500 advertising and editorial clients and has also worked in television, designing and supervising the production of graphics for shows such as "ABC ABC

Today, Jonason and his wife live in Mendocino, where he plays guitar in two bands, including Two Blue Dudes, a jazz standards and blues duo.

Previously, Jonason has paid homage to modernists such as Richard Neutra Richard Joseph Neutra (April 8, 1892 – April 16, 1970) is considered one of modernism's most important architects.

Neutra was born in Vienna, Austria in 1892. He studied under Adolf Loos, was influenced by Otto Wagner, and worked for a time in Germany in the studio of

 and Gregory An with his exhibit "Modernism in Silver Lake." He has also shown "Scenes of Portland," which focused on the relationship and interaction between the Willamette River and Portland's skyline.

Jonason is currently working on a show featuring New Mexico's churches, which will open in Santa Fe in the fall.

Jonason's wife's family lives in the Pasadena area and his visits there added to his ongoing interest in architecture. He became enchanted en·chant

"I'm not an architect. I am a painter who likes architecture. This is something I love, and I believe you should paint what you love," Jonason said.
