The five-room, two-story structure, which took 3-1/2 years to build and was inspired by different European architectural styles, will be on view beginning Saturday.

structure," said Ron Hubble, owner of the St. Louis, Mo.-based firm Hubble and Co., which designed and constructed the building. The 4-year-old firm has a line of retail miniature accessories and furniture sold at miniatures shows and dollhouse shops, and it makes custom room boxes and structures.

The exterior of the miniature structure was inspired by the garden facade of the palace of Versailles in France before later alterations, Hubble said. Some of the walls are four inches thick in places.

Throw in English-, French- and Italian-influenced designs in the interior. Floors and columns were painted to look like marble, and 24-karat gold leaf was applied on molding. One room has more than 2,000 pieces of wood in a parquetry floor, Hubble said.

The goal was to achieve the feel of a real building, even in 1/12th scale, instead of a dollhouse look. The building is 9 feet, 7 inches long, 5 feet wide and 8 feet tall, including its base.

"It required just an unbelievable amount of planning," Hubble said. "And it grew. It changed as we worked on it."

Carole Kaye said the piece will be filled with furniture and art already in the museum's permanent collection, as well as commissioned works. It has yet to be named but may serve as a miniature museum The Miniature Museum was located at the AMC hospital in Amsterdam. It has since moved, and at the moment there are negotioations with a major Dutch museum to provide the new location. , she said.

The building joins miniatures of Hampton Court and Fontainebleau Palace at the museum. A miniature Buckingham Palace Buckingham Palace (bŭk`ĭng-əm), residence of British sovereigns from 1837, in Westminster metropolitan borough, London, England, adjacent to St. James's Park.  is expected to be completed for display next year.
