The drawings are the works of a range of artists in England between 1740 and 1840 and collected by Englishman Thomas Turner Thomas Turner can refer to several people:
  • Thomas Turner (dean) (1592-1672), Dean of Canterbury
  • Thomas Turner (diarist and shopkeeper) (1729 - 1793), 18th century English diarist
  • Thomas Peter Turner (born 1928), British researcher
  • Thomas R. Turner II, U.S.
. Many were done as studies for prints that would accompany editions of Shakespeare's works in England.

The exhibit is being held in honor of the International Shakespeare Association's World Congress in Los Angeles in April. More than 1,200 scholars and teachers are expected to attend the event, now in its 25th year. The Huntington will host a reception and private viewing of the collection for the gathering's participants.

Surveying art history

 at the Armand Hammer Museum of Art and Cultural Center, will teach a series of art history courses at the Westwood museum from 10:30 a.m. to noon on Saturdays, beginning this weekend.

The first lecture in the five-part series will be "The Glory of Rome," from Etruria to Rome. The others are: "Byzantium - The Eastern Europe," from Constantine to Christianity on Feb. 24; "Expansion of the Faith" in Italy, Germany and the British Isles on March 2; "Architecture and Art" from Romanesque to Gothic on March 9 and "Toward a New Humanity," the pre-Renaissance in Italy and Flanders on March 16.

Each session is $10 or $40 for the complete series when purchased Saturday. For information, call (310) 443-7000.

The Docent Council of the Pacific Asia Museum The Pacific Asia Museum is an Asian art museum located at 46 N. Los Robles Avenue, Pasadena, California, United States.
