The image of the written text may be sensed "off line" from a piece of paper by optical scanning (optical character recognition).  software will be ported to Motorola's new microprocessors. In addition, Motorola and ART plan to collaborate in the co-marketing of ART-ported products.

The companies agreed to the porting of ART's leading smARTspeak NG and simpliWrite technologies to Motorola's processors, including the 2/2.5G and 3G Innovative Convergence(TM) Platform and DragonBall(TM) applications processor families.

"Developers of today's mobile devices are increasingly demanding high performance speech and handwriting functions," said Ed Valdez, marketing director for Motorola's Wireless and Mobile Systems Division. "We are leveraging best-in-class technologies from ART and other vendors to enable developers to deliver a wide variety of applications using Motorola's total systems solutions."

"We are secure that both their global chipset customers and the users of Motorola's own mobile devices will be delighted with the comprehensive range of speech and handwriting functionality offered by the smARTspeak NG and simpliWrite recognition engines," said Yakov Shulman, ART's VP Sales. "At the same time, by enhancing their already world-class technologies, the deployment of ART's software helps Motorola maintain its leadership position in today's highly competitive marketplace."

About smARTspeak NG

Especially designed for the tight processing-power environment of today's mass-market cellular handsets, ART's unique smARTspeak NG is the first product ever to successfully combine all the speech-recognition functions usually found separately on either speaker-independent or speaker-dependent systems.

This all-in-one technology bundle combines all key speech-enabled functions, such as name and continuous digit dialing, menu navigation and device control, with new speaker-independent digit dialing functions. In addition, through a short and simple, 30-second personalization Custom tailoring information to the individual. On the Web, personalization means returning a page that has been customized for the user, taking into consideration that person's habits and preferences.  process, accented users benefit from further personalization that allows them to exploit smARTspeak NG capabilities, even if they are not native speakers

About simpliWrite

Supporting all major Western European languages and allowing concurrent multilingual use, ART's revolutionary simpliWrite software-only solution intuitively recognizes user's natural handwriting. With no new characters or symbols to learn, simpliWrite demands no training, and users activate their device and compose messages within minutes.

The fastest and most convenient handwriting recognition solution available, simpliWrite's continuous, on-the-fly recognition engine even works when one letter is written over another. 'Noise robust,' it intuitively accepts inaccurate or trembling trembling
