Hart Union High School District were recently honored at a reception hosted by Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital as a thank-you for providing original pieces of artwork for display in the hospital's new medical-surgical unit. The pieces include landscapes, florals, animals and other soothing scenes designed to create a calming atmosphere in the hospital rooms and common areas. The selections were chosen from a number of student creations that were offered for the program, and will remain on permanent display in the hospital with the artist's name and school noted on a plaque with each piece. During the reception, guests browsed among pieces of framed student artwork displayed on easels around the room. The artists then received certificates from the hospital and the school district expressing appreciation for the donation of the original works. Artists whose work was chosen for display include Danielle Jamgochian, Tiana Hanna, Jessica Jellison, Darla Beloro and Kaoru Takeya from Placerita Junior High; Gloria Rivera and Kaitlin Castor from La Mesa La Mesa (lə mā`sə), city (1990 pop. 52,931), San Diego co., S Calif., a suburb of San Diego; inc. 1912. The partnership between the hospital and the Hart district started last year, when students created six pieces for display in the Intensive Care Unit in response to a suggestion by Hart board member Patricia Hanrion. Hospital officials were so impressed with the quality of the student work that they requested more student artwork for their new unit. The hospital provided a ``champagne'' reception with sparkling apple cider
Apple cider is the name used especially in the United States and parts of Canada for a non-alcoholic beverage produced from apples by a process of pressing. to thank the artists for donating their work, and made up note cards with the students' work as a thank-you gift. The young artists were congratulated by a crowd of family members, art teachers, principals and administrators from the school district and the hospital. The teachers were lauded for nurturing the talents of their young students, encouraging their generosity and helping to coordinate the collection of student artwork for the exhibit. The hospital is also working on a rotating display of student artwork in the cafeteria cafeteria: see restaurant. and is considering additional permanent exhibits in other areas of the hospital. Artwork from Hart district students has played a major role in two special events in recent weeks - the hospital's reception and exhibit, and the presentation of framed art pieces as awards to the district's top business partners.
