ART AN AVENUE FOR EXPRESSION EX-BANKER'S WATERCOLOR PAINTINGS ON DISPLAY.Byline: KAREN MAESHIRO Staff Writer PALMDALE -- The work of Palmdale artist Laneea Tolley will be featured in an exhibit that opens today at the Palmdale Playhouse Art Gallery. A retired bank executive, Tolley does watercolor paintings watercolor painting, in its wider sense, refers to all pigments mixed with water rather than with oil and also to the paintings produced by this process; it includes fresco and tempera as well as aquarelle, the process now commonly meant by the generic term. that feature African-American themes. ``It gives me the freedom to express myself,'' Tolley, 47, said of her artwork. The exhibit runs until Feb.18. A reception will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday. ``Laneea's artwork brings to life the whimsy whim·sy also whim·sey n. pl. whim·sies also whim·seys 1. An odd or fanciful idea; a whim. 2. The exhibit will feature portraits of children and animals, jazz-infused pieces and contemporary painting. Tolley said she's been painting since she was 7, first inspired by classes offered during Sunday school Sunday school, institution for instruction in religion and morals, usually conducted in churches as part of the church organization but sometimes maintained by other religious or philanthropic bodies.
