ART'S ON THE TILES.


YOUNG and old have been taking part in a seaside art project.

People in Newbiggin-by-the- Sea have been carving tiles for an exhibit to mirror work by Angel of the North creator Antony Gormley

While the artist's Field for the British Isles British Isles: see Great Britain; Ireland.  comprised 40,000 terracotta figures, the villagers' version NE64, or Field for Newbiggin, will see 400 tiles placed overlooking the promenade.

Peter Seddon, a member of Keap Creative, said: "They are cobles, coalmines and bays representing fishing, mining and a seaside resort seaside resort nplaya

The tiles will be installed over August Bank Holiday weekend.
