ARRMS update.


The American Road Race Medical Society (ARRMS) held its second meeting in conjunction with the HP Houston Marathon The Houston Marathon is an annual marathon held every January in Houston, Texas. With thousands of runners and spectators, it is the largest single day sporting event in the city. It is run concurrently with a half marathon and a 5K race.  on January 17. Lectures were presented by Gatorade Sports Science Sports science is a discipline that studies the application of scientific principles and techniques with the aim of improving sporting performance. Human movement is a related scientific discipline that studies human movement in all contexts including that of sport.  Institute researchers Randy Eichner, M.D. and Bob Murray

, M.D. (electrolytes); ARRMS Chairperson and Twin Cities Marathon Medical Director Bill Roberts, M.D. (heat stroke at road races); and Chicago Marathon The LaSalle Bank Chicago Marathon is a major marathon held yearly in Chicago in Cook County, Illinois, United States. Alongside the Boston, New York, London and Berlin Marathons, it is one of the five World Marathon Majors.  Medical Director Greg Ewert, M.D. (mortality at marathons). A panel discussion followed with the additions of HP Houston Marathon[R] Medical Director John Cianca, M.D. and Assistant Medical Director Joe Chorley, M.D.

The ARRMS meeting concluded with a business discussion focusing on the mission of the organization, review of by-laws and scheduling of future ARRMS meetings:

April 18 -- Boston, MA*

April 14-18 -- Vancouver, BC

June 2-5 -- Indianapolis, IN

October 30 -- Washington, DC*
